The idea behind this wine was to use the classic Australian icon variety – Shiraz – with the king of grapes from Italy – Sangiovese – in a style that exhibits the best of the Mediterranean and the Antipodes.
Viticulture
Our 2009 Rosé was made from the ground up using hand picked Shiraz and Sangiovese from our Woodlands Ridge and Tunnel Hill vineyards – no cheating here this is a purpose made Rosé! .
Winemaking
The grapes were hand picked and blended together, destemmed and crushed before spending 18 hours macerating in a press for maximum colour extraction. After the right amount of colour extraction the fruit was then pressed and the red skins discarded.
Tasting Notes
What we achieved in the end was a perfectly balanced wine that required no colour or acid adjustment. The colour is soft pink with raspberry and cherry aromas with a hint of spice and savoury characters. All of those aromas combine on the palate to produce a wine with generous and persistent fruit characters, a hint of sweetness and lingering acidity to produce a fresh and balanced wine.
Enjoy this wine with fi ne food or treat yourself and consume it on a warm spring or
summers evening.
